Dr. Spencer received his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City. He completed a fellowship in Mohs Surgery with Rex Amonette, MD, and has served as assistant professor at the University of Miami and associate professor and vice chairman at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Most recently, he has been promoted to professor of clinical dermatology at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and has opened a private practice in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Dr. Spencer is active in the prevention, detection, and treatment of all types of skin cancer. He also has an active clinical and research interest in lasers and cosmetic therapies. Dr. Spencer is a frequent speaker, both nationally and internationally, on cutaneous oncology, as well as cosmetic therapies and lasers. In addition to maintaining a private practice, he is co-chairman of the National Council for Skin Cancer Prevention, current president of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Surgery, recently elected to the board of directors of the American Academy of Dermatology, co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. Dr. Spencer is coeditor of 1 book, author of 14 book chapters, and over 80 scientific publications.
